Welcome to the k. thompson photography blog! I’m Kelsey Thompson, a documentary-style wedding photographer in the Washington, DC metro area. I work and reside in Alexandria, Virginia with my two cute and crazy dogs and my husband (also cute and crazy).

This photography blog will be the best place for you to view images from my recent weddings and portrait sessions. It’s also where I’ll announce new products and share my thoughts about weddings, photography, and the amazing couples that I feel so lucky to work with year-round!

So please check back often and leave a comment when you read (I love comments!). And, as always, please feel free to shoot me an email with any thoughts, comments or questions you might have. Enjoy!

Ready for 2010!

With my first wedding of the year coming up this weekend, I've been thinking more and more about how excited I am for 2010! I'm still editing and designing albums from last year and I can tell you without hesitation that 2009 was such a wonderful year and I'm more than a little sad to see these final albums go out the door. Every time I receive a finished album for one of my clients, it's like opening a present! (And more than once I've needed to order a second copy to keep at the studio just because I am so happy with the finished album!) But the best part about this time of year is getting to look ahead to all the amazing weddings that I'll be photographing in the year to come. I am SO excited for 2010! I can't wait to finally work with the fantastic clients that booked me many many months ago! And I'm so thrilled to be photographing at some spectacular venues! Some are old favorites, while others I'm looking forward to shooting at for the first time. Just in case you're curious and will be visiting the blog throughout this upcoming year, here are a few of the locations that you'll be seeing (and some you'll be seeing even more than once!):

Halcyon House
River Farm
Woodend Sanctuary
National Museum of Women in the Arts
The Omni Shoreham
Brookside Gardens
The Westin Grand
Strathmore
Hotel Monaco
Airlie Center
Chesapeake Bay Beach Club
Admiral Fell Inn
Grandview Manor
The Willard
Key Bridge Marriott
Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR)
The River Plantation
Antrim 1844
A couple of private homes
And one private family farm!

Is it any wonder I'm so excited about 2010?!?! I just know it's going to be a great year filled with many memorable moments, favorite images, and a heck of a lot of fun! We do still have availability for a few dates, so please feel free to contact us if you are having a 2010 wedding. Oh, and because this is a photography blog and I knew I couldn't post without an image, here's a fun one from last fall. The processing is a little different than my usual look, but I'm loving it for a fine-art print! Don't you just adore those yellow shoes?

A new look for the blog!

Things are looking a lot prettier for the k. thompson photography blog! I owe a huge thanks to the fabulous Ellie of Rainy Day Templates, who worked so hard to make this my perfect blog site! We went back and forth about every detail of my custom blog, and she never tired of hearing my ideas, critiques, and overall craziness. So, thanks, Ellie! If anyone is looking to spruce up their blog (photography, or otherwise), you definitely need to check out her fantastic work!

A new look for the New Year!

k. thompson photography will be getting a new look in 2009! That's right...we're re-doing it all...the website, the blog, and the logo. There's only one thing that will stay the same -- the photography! Well, I might stick around too. Even though I love a good surprise, I thought it best to put the word out in advance. Yes, you'll still have come to the right place...it'll just look even better! So, come the New Year, keep an eye out for all the new goodies. We'd love your feedback!

The Results of the FotoWeek DC Juried Photo Competition!

I am very excited to announce that one of my wedding images took a second place, Silver Award, in the FotoWeek DC juried photo exhibition! The winners were unveiled Saturday night at the first annual FotoWeek DC Gala. The competition received over 7,000 entries, which were narrowed down to four finalists in each category. For those of you who are interested in photography (or just enjoy a good time), be sure to keep an eye out for next year's FotoWeek DC. The events were really amazing, and even included a night gallery where photographs were projected in high-definition on the sides of DC museums and buildings! Thanks again to everyone that showed me such great support as I waited to hear the results. I'm already looking forward to entering again next year!

Holidays Cards!

Several clients have asked for more information about holiday cards, so I thought I'd go ahead and post more details and a few additional design samples. The good news is that the design and ordering process for holiday cards is pretty easy. If you decide that you'd like holiday cards from your recent session, please contact me at 703.447.0834. We'll discuss your favorite card designs, the image(s) that you'd like to include, and a greeting for the inside of your cards. I'll do a mock-up with your chosen photo(s) and email you so that you may view your card proof. We can do any necessary changes and then I'll send the cards off to the printers. Cards come in packs of 24 and there is a small discount on additional packs of the same design as the first. I hope that helps everyone who is considering holiday cards this season. Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions at all!

I'll sure be keeping my fingers crossed.
