Welcome to the k. thompson photography blog! I’m Kelsey Thompson, a documentary-style wedding photographer in the Washington, DC metro area. I work and reside in Alexandria, Virginia with my two cute and crazy dogs and my husband (also cute and crazy).

This photography blog will be the best place for you to view images from my recent weddings and portrait sessions. It’s also where I’ll announce new products and share my thoughts about weddings, photography, and the amazing couples that I feel so lucky to work with year-round!

So please check back often and leave a comment when you read (I love comments!). And, as always, please feel free to shoot me an email with any thoughts, comments or questions you might have. Enjoy!

The Results of the FotoWeek DC Juried Photo Competition!

I am very excited to announce that one of my wedding images took a second place, Silver Award, in the FotoWeek DC juried photo exhibition! The winners were unveiled Saturday night at the first annual FotoWeek DC Gala. The competition received over 7,000 entries, which were narrowed down to four finalists in each category. For those of you who are interested in photography (or just enjoy a good time), be sure to keep an eye out for next year's FotoWeek DC. The events were really amazing, and even included a night gallery where photographs were projected in high-definition on the sides of DC museums and buildings! Thanks again to everyone that showed me such great support as I waited to hear the results. I'm already looking forward to entering again next year!

Tirsit & Fasika - Wedding at the Galleria at the Lafayette Center, DC

Ceremony: St. George Orthodox Church
Reception: Galleria at the Lafayette Center
Dress: Vera Wang

I had the pleasure of photographing this wedding with fellow photographer, Corbin Harris of CMH Photo. We were we all over downtown DC capturing Tirsit and Fasika's beautiful wedding day. This group was so much fun to photograph! There were just so many great little details to capture, such as the gorgeous detailing on Tirsit's gown, the rich colors of her calla lily bouquet, and the way she held onto her father's arm before walking down the aisle. I feel very lucky to have been part of their day!

Check out the intricate details on her skirt...amazing! Way to go Vera!

We just had time to squeeze in a few outdoor photos before we were forced to dash back to the cars. This wasn't any light sprinkle, it came pouring down!

Tirsit starting holding onto her father's arm a good ten minutes before their walk down the aisle. It was just so sweet to see them have some time together.

Sally & Ron - A North Carolina Wedding

I went to school down in North Carolina, so when I had the opportunity to head down there to photograph Sally and Ron's wedding with Aaron Sorgius, I was happy to jump in the car and spend some time down in the area. But it wasn't seeing my old favorite places that made this trip so memorable. It was definitely seeing the love that Sally and Ron have for each other. They were just simply thrilled to be marrying one another! It was easy to capture the love between them and I have quite a few favorite images from their wedding. Here are just a few...

Vanessa & Kevin - Engagement Session

We were so lucky to get such a gorgeous afternoon this past Saturday for Vanessa and Kevin's engagement session in D.C. These two are such fun to be around and I simply cannot wait to photograph their wedding in April! Thank you both for such a great session!
