Welcome to the k. thompson photography blog! I’m Kelsey Thompson, a documentary-style wedding photographer in the Washington, DC metro area. I work and reside in Alexandria, Virginia with my two cute and crazy dogs and my husband (also cute and crazy).

This photography blog will be the best place for you to view images from my recent weddings and portrait sessions. It’s also where I’ll announce new products and share my thoughts about weddings, photography, and the amazing couples that I feel so lucky to work with year-round!

So please check back often and leave a comment when you read (I love comments!). And, as always, please feel free to shoot me an email with any thoughts, comments or questions you might have. Enjoy!

On this last day of the year, I thought I'd share a quick sneak peek from my final two weddings of 2009. More to come soon! Happy New Year!

Jen & Aaron - Engaged!

When Jen and Aaron first suggested Mt. Vernon for their engagement session this Fall, I was so excited. I love Mt. Vernon! It's just a few miles down the road from my house and there are so many fun spots that I could envision shooting around. Unfortunately, our first session time had to be postponed due to rain (a LOT of rain!). I could hear the disappointment in Jen's voice when we had to reschedule because the leaves were already starting to drop and I know we were all hoping for some of those gorgeous Fall colors! But Mt. Vernon provided so many great locations that we didn't even miss the Fall leaves. They actually had to kick us out at closing time! I didn't want to stop shooting! Thanks for such a fun afternoon, Jen and Aaron!

We still managed to find one good tree with colorful leaves!

This little door with the brick and ivy caught my eye right away...so perfect!

Meg & Stu - Engaged!

Yay, it's been a virtual blogging marathon for me these last couple of weeks while I try to catch up! And I'm *almost* there! Fall is such an awesome (and crazy!) time for weddings and sessions! I love it! For their engagement session, Meg and Stu met up with me in Old Town a couple of weeks ago on a rather unseasonably warm November day. It was gorgeous! People were even walking around the quaint streets of Old Town in shorts and tank tops! (If it seems that I am reminiscing a little too much, it's probably because there is now ice on my driveway and I'm suffering from a mean winter cold.) We had a fantastic time as we worked our way down to the water and around some new areas that I've never photographed before. These two will be getting married next June in fabulous St. Michaels, MD and I am beyond myself excited to photograph their day!

I'm only showing two from this next series (there are actually four total), but I think you get the idea! Love these!

Another of my favorites!

Meg's great orange jacket was SO perfect for these Fall images!

Erin & Michael - International Country Club

When I first met with Erin last May about photographing their May 2010 (that's right, I'll explain later) wedding, I think we somehow managed to talk for well over two hours. And I think only maybe 30 minutes of that time was spent talking about their wedding! So, when Erin called me up a couple of months ago and told me that she and Michael thought that May was just too far away and they'd like to move up their wedding date, I was thrilled that I would get to work with them sooner! It was beyond sweet...they just couldn't wait till the Spring to get married! I love that! And they got a gorgeous November day instead! Erin and Michael wanted to do portraits around the Jefferson Memorial, so we spent several fantastic hours there before their ceremony getting a ton of great images. I admit that I tend to avoid the monuments because of the crowds and the permits required, but those things didn't faze Erin and Michael in the least...and I'm so glad that we jumped through the necessary hoops to shoot there because I love the results! So, thank you both for suggesting the idea and for having me there for such a beautiful and fun day!

What a spot for portraits!

Erin's dad was so proud as he walked her down the aisle...look at that grin!

Here's that same proud smile during their father-daughter dance. So sweet!

The sky was amazing when we went outside!
